Does the Open Elms open source license give me the right to modify and distribute the Open eLMS Learning Management System?
Yes. The Open Elms Learning Management System (e-LMS) can be freely distributed with any e-Learning course. We do however ask that reference is made to the Open Elms logo and the client is directed to the Open Elms site for support and other services.
Can I design and distribute e-Learning Courses created with Open Elms within my organization?
Open Elms courses may be freely distributed within your company, NHS Trust or Government Department.
Can I sell courses created with Open Elms?
Courses developed with Open Elms can only be sold with Open Elms prior written permission. Whilst the company has no problem with companies making a profit from its software it needs to ensure that the quality of available courses meets the Open Elms Approved Course standard. Approved courses can be added to the Open Elms web site and sold from that location. Contact us should you have any further queries.
Can Open Elms ever take away the code?
The simple answer is NO. Once code is released under License, it can never be taken away.
How can I change the code?
Open Elms Learning Management System is written in ASP and Java script. Standard web editing tools can be used to edit the existing code. It is requested that all changes to the code are signed with your company's name and date and sent back to Open Elms on completion. This will help us when augmenting the software to the next version.
How can I get Open Elms in some language other than English?
Open Elms can be translated into any other language without even needing to recode (by using the configuration option in the Learning Management System). If you have translated the system then please send it back for inclusion in standard releases.
What is the Employee Management System (EMS)?
The Employee Management System (EMS) consists of additional functionality which can be purchased to enhance the SCORM compliant Learning Management System. This system allows management to ask compliance questions at the end of an e-learning session and initiate and track actions as a result of the questions. I would like to purchase support for the system, can this be done?
Yes. Open Elms makes it money by selling additional support for the system. This includes installation, handling upgrades, writing bespoke courses and configuring the system. Contact us to discuss the options.
